Foot Case 5 Background

Navicular Fracture

Background

The word navicular is derived from the Latin word navis, meaning shaped like a ship. It is the most commonly fractured midfoot bone. Like the scaphoid bone, it is highly susceptible to avascular necrosis.

Types of navicular fractures are dorsal avulsions (like this patient), tuberosity, body, and stress fractures.
