Hand Case 8 Background

Fingertip Avulsion

Background

Most fingertip amputations occur in adult males aged 21-30. Approximately 10,000 traumatic amputations per year are due to work related injuries; common household causes include snowblowers (roughly 1000 amputations yearly), lawnmowers, and other power tools. Most tip amputations (up to 86%) involve the dominant hand.
