Hand Case 9 Diagnosis

Rolando's Fracture

Diagnosis

Standard hand radiographs (AP/lateral/oblique) with a true lateral of the 1st carpometacarpal joint make the diagnosis. The true lateral of the 1st CMC joint allows more accurate evaluation of metacarpal displacement, the size and position of the volar fragment, and the gap between the fragment and metacarpal base, which may affect whether surgery is indicated
