Diagnosis

Clinical and radiographic findings usually confirm the diagnosis. Early in the disease, radiographic evidence of may not be present but will develop as OA progresses. Characteristic X ray findings include osteophyte formation, joint space narrowing, subchondral sclerosis, and subchondral cyst formation. Joint space narrowing is the most specific X ray finding for predicting OA progression.
