Metaphyseal Corner Fracture

ED Management

Patients with non-displaced fractures should be treated with long leg splint for 4-6 weeks. The patient should be non-weight bearing with prompt orthopedic referral for possible internal fixation or closed reduction under general anesthesia for displaced fractures.

Up to 40% of patients with metaphyseal corner fractures will have >1cm leg-length discrepancy secondary to growth plate arrest.

Whenever abuse is suspected, the child should be admitted and child protective services must be notified.
