Spine Case 4 ED Management

Coccyx fracture

ED Management

The patient should be instructed to sit forward so body weight rests on the ischial tuberosities and thighs rather than on the coccyx. A donut-shaped cushion should help, as may stool softeners. The pain often improves over a week as bony callous forms to decrease coccyx motion. If pain lasts more than two months, other options include corticosteroid injections, digital manipulation, nerve blocks, accupuncture, and surgical resection.
