Leg/Knee Case 5 Diagnosis
Anterior Knee Dislocation
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is readily made by plain films, particularly the lateral projection. Remember that when determining whether the dislocation is anterior versus posterior, the type of dislocation is defined by where the distal is (the tibia) relative to the proximal (the femur).
For those patients who have reduced spontaneously prior to arrival, the previously mentioned exam findings should raise clinical suspicion that the injury had occurred and the same evaluation should be initiated.
