Leg/Knee Case 9 Background
Bipartite Patella
Background
Bipartite patella is a common congenital fragmentation or synchondrosis (connection of bones by cartilage) of the patella. Most remain asymptomatic, but symptoms mimicking fracture may result from direct trauma, which inflames the synchondrosis. These patella anomalies are classified as type 1 (inferior pole), type II (lateral margin) or type III (superolateral).
