Wrist Case 1 Diagnosis
Scaphoid fracture
Diagnosis
10-25% of scaphoid fractures will be missed on initial radiographs. Multiple views, including AP, lateral, oblique, and scaphoid views, should be obtained. To perform a scaphoid view, the fist is clenched and the wrist is ulnar deviated, helping to bring the entire scaphoid into view. Repeat films taken 10-14 days after the injury may demonstrate a cortical defect not seen on initial films due to resorption associated with fracture healing.
