Wrist Case 8 History/Physical Exam

Barton Fracture

History and Physical Exam

Barton's fractures can occur by two main mechanisms. The classic fall on the outstretched hand (FOOSH) will cause a dorsal displacement of the fracture, whereas a direct blow to the dorsal surface of the wrist will cause volar displacement. The patient will often have edema and a deformity to the dorsal or volar wrist.
