Shoulder Case 6 Diagnosis

Humerus Shaft Fracture

Diagnosis

Standard humerus x rays are diagnostic. In proximal shaft fractures, the pectoralis muscle pulls the proximal portion medially, while the humerus distal to the fracture line deviates laterally. This is in contrast to mid-shaft fractures, in which the deltoid pulls the proximal bone laterally, and the distal humerus is deviated medially by the biceps and triceps.
