Pelvis/Hip Case 9 Management
Isolated pubic ramus fractures are “weight bearing as tolerated” injuries. Patient disposition from the ED depends on the patient’s ability to manage the pain and function at home with the injury. Patients who are unable to function at home and without sufficient home support require brief hospital admission for pain control, physical therapy, and arrangement of home services. Early mobilization is recommended.
If both rami are fractured on the same side and/or the fracture fragments are significantly displaced, especially in the case of straddle injuries, order CT scan to define all the fractures [2].
