Soft Tissue Case 8 Diagnosis

Pyogenic granuloma is initially a clinical diagnosis that is confirmed by biopsy. Consider medications the patient is taking that increase prevalence of PG formation and any history of similar lesions as PGs may recur.

Rarely, cancers can mimic PGs so prompt follow-up with a dermatologist for excision and biopsy is indicated when the diagnosis is uncertain.  Pyogenic granulomas may be mistaken for infections by those not familiar with the typical appearance.
