Spine Case 9 ED Management

There is no cure for AS. Treatment includes pain control with NSAIDs, daily exercises (i.e. swimming), sleeping on a firm mattress, physiotherapy, as well as hip replacement and/or spinal surgery for severe cases. Fractures should be managed in consultation with a spine surgeon; nondisplaced cervical fractures without neurologic deficit are typically managed with halo immobilization, while displaced fractures or those associated with neurologic deficits require operative fixation.
